Kano Gov Advocates for Release of Detained Minors

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has directed the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice to take action regarding the detention of minors from Kano who were among the #EndBadGovernance protesters recently arraigned in Abuja.

This information was confirmed by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, in a statement on Sunday.

On Friday, the Federal Government arraigned 76 protesters, including minors, during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. Some of the minors appeared visibly malnourished in footage that circulated online. They faced multiple charges, including treason and incitement to mutiny, for allegedly urging the military to remove President Bola Tinubu. All defendants pleaded not guilty.

Dantiye noted that Governor Yusuf issued his directive via X (formerly Twitter) in response to the viral video of the court proceedings.

“The governor has instructed the Commissioner for Justice to address this situation promptly,” Dantiye stated. “My attention has been drawn to the appearance of teenagers, some of whom are believed to be from Kano, in court today in Abuja. We are committed to doing everything possible to secure their return to Kano, insha Allah,” the governor’s statement read.
