The Kano State House of Assembly passed a significant bill on Tuesday to create Second Class Emirates and appoint Second Class Emirs within the state.
This legislative move followed the second and third readings of the bill, conducted under the leadership of the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.
Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Butubutu, who advocated for the adoption and passage of the bill, provided more details on its implications.
He explained that the newly established Second Class Emirates and Emirs will support the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in managing the emirate’s affairs.
The new Second Class Emirates to be created include:
Rano Emirate: Covering Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya.
Karaye Emirate: Encompassing Karaye and Rogo.
Gaya Emirate: Including Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu.
The bill had its first reading before the assembly went on recess, following the repeal of the Kano Emirate Council Law.
