The Kaduna State Government has started paying 30% compensation to 1,133 landowners whose lands were taken for government projects.
This compensation, given as grants, is part of the Land Swap Compensation Policy along the Rigasa-Mando Link Road in Kaduna.
Dr. Bashir Ibrahim, Director General of Kaduna Geographic Information Service, distributed allocation letters to beneficiaries in Kaduna, in fulfilling promises made by Governor Uba Sani, which according to him is aimed at helping affected landowners, with waivers on application fees and premium charges.
He noted that the distribution will be quick, with verification at local government secretariats, district heads and KADGIS office.
According to him, recipients need National Identity Numbers for verification. Compensation, previously in cash, is now in land, potentially valued up to ten times the original farmland.
In reaction, Alhaji Umar Idris, District Head of Rigasa, thanked the government, relieving them from accusations of colluding in land seizure.
