The Kaduna State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disputed former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim of membership, stating that he has not followed the necessary procedures to join the party.
This development comes two weeks after El-Rufai announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the SDP, citing a growing misalignment between his personal values and the APC’s current direction.
According to Idris Inuwa, the party’s Assistant National Secretary for the Northwest zone, neither the Chairman of the Kaduna North Local Government Chapter nor the leadership of Unguwar Sarki ward has any record of El-Rufai’s membership.
Inuwa emphasized that El-Rufai and his associates must follow the proper procedures if they wish to officially become members of the party.
The Kaduna State SDP also rejected the purported dissolution of the State Working Committee, stating that it is unconstitutional and contrary to the principles of due process and internal democracy.
Inuwa noted that the Kaduna State Executive Committee is a legitimate outcome of a duly conducted State Congress and holds a four-year mandate that remains valid and binding.
The SDP constitution clearly outlines the process and procedure for dissolving a State Executive Committee, which includes initiating an investigation, setting up a committee, and providing a fair hearing transparently.
Inuwa concluded by emphasizing that the Kaduna State SDP remains open and welcoming to all prospective members who adhere to the established procedures.
