JUST IN: Donald Trump Sworn in as 47th US President

Donald Trump has officially returned to the White House as the 47th President of the United States after being sworn in during an intimate ceremony at the Capitol’s Rotunda.

The oath of office was administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, marking Trump’s unprecedented comeback as both the 45th and 47th U.S. President. He now joins Grover Cleveland as the second president in American history to serve non-consecutive terms.

A Vision for America’s Future

In his second inaugural address, Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer during every single day of the Trump administration.”

Reactions Across Nigeria

Trump’s return to power has sparked reactions across Nigeria, a country that has often been affected by U.S. foreign policies.

Mr. Emeka Uche, an economist in Lagos, expressed optimism about the development. “Trump’s presidency has always emphasized economic growth and trade. If his policies continue to focus on fair trade practices, it could be beneficial for African economies like Nigeria,” he said.

On the other hand, political analyst Mrs. Funmi Balogun raised concerns. “While Trump’s leadership style is assertive, it’s critical for African leaders to advocate for policies that protect the continent’s interests,” she stated.

What This Means for U.S.-Nigeria Relations

Trump’s administration previously placed significant attention on reducing U.S. involvement in global conflicts while promoting bilateral trade agreements. As he resumes office, many Nigerians are keen to see how his foreign policy agenda will impact Africa, particularly in areas like trade, immigration, and international aid.

For now, all eyes remain on the U.S., with observers worldwide closely following Trump’s first steps in his second term.
