A 300-level female student of Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State, Shamsiya Murtala, has lost her life in a fire outbreak in the female hostel of the institution.
According to the President of the Adamawa State Students Union, Fuga chapter, Sabo Bitrus, in a post on his Facebook handle, the incident left several other students injured.
He said, “Today, our hearts are filled with sorrow as we share the devastating news of a fire outbreak at the Female Annex Hostel within our beloved university. The flames that engulfed this cherished residence have left us deeply saddened. Which claimed the life of a promising young female student, Shamsiya Murtala.
“Shamsiya until her death, was a 300-level student of the Geography Department at the university and hails from Edo State. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
“During the chaotic evacuation, several students sustained injuries, adding to the immense tragedy of this incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with each student affected, their families, and friends during this difficult time.
“Let us come together, providing strength and comfort to one another in the face of this unimaginable, difficult time. We will stand resilient, supporting each other through this challenging journey of healing and rebuilding. I pray for quick recovery to the injured student.”
