Isese Day: Lagos, Oyo, others declare Monday public holiday

Ahead the celebration of 2023 Isese Day, Lagos, Oyo and Osun State Governments have declared Monday as Public Holiday.

The Isese Day celebration, which will take place on Sunday, August 20.

Lagos State head of service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola made the announcement in a statement at the weekend.

He said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared Monday to be a work-free day for public employees “with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage.

“In restating its commitment to continue to provide the necessary support to traditional institutions in the state with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has graciously declared Monday, 21st August 2023, a work-free day for public servants in the state. Work will, therefore, resume on Tuesday, 22nd August at 8 am prompt,”

Also, the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo urged traditional worshippers in the state to use the period to pray for the peace, unity, and stability of the state.

“Makinde approves August 20 as Isese Day, declares Monday a public holiday
The Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has approved that August 20 of every year as Isese Day in the state,” the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Sulaimon Olanrewaju said in a statement.

“To this end, the governor has declared Monday, August 21, 2023, as the maiden public holiday to commemorate the day.”

On his part, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke in a statement through his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Alimi said, ““I have the honour and privilege to convey the compliment and best wishes of the Executive Governor of Osun state, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke to all traditional religion worshippers in Osun state on the occasion of this year’s 2023 Isese Day celebrations coming up tomorrow 20th August, 2023.

“As a government that promotes oneness, unity and religious harmony between the practitioners of different religions in Osun state , Mr Governor has approved, Monday, the 21st of August 2023 as a Public Holiday throughout the state.”

Similarly, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun in a statement on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, eulogised the existing harmony among adherents of all religions in Gateway State.

He expressed the commitment of his administration to promote, preserve and nurture the culture and tradition of our people.

While congratulating the traditional religion worshippers on the occasion, he also urged them to celebrate with decorum and avoid acts capable of threatening the existing peace in the state.
