Insecurity: Police DIG visits Akwa Ibom

Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South-South geopolitical zone, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, psc(+), mni, embarked on a two-day duty tour to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Ikot Akpanabia on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Pedro, who supervises the South-South geopolitical zone and also serves as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the Nigerian Police Force, was accompanied by Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 6, AIG Jonathan Towuru, mni.

Upon arrival, the police chief held an interactive session with security stakeholders, discussing various security issues.

He noted that security is a collective responsibility, urging officers and stakeholders to assist and support the police through information gathering, intelligence sharing, and reporting any suspicious activities in their areas.

The DIG also requested logistic support to enhance the fight against crime in the state.

He commended the efforts of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, describing his achievements in the short time he has been in the state as commendable.

Pedro encouraged personnel to be more dedicated to their duties, avoid acts of cowardice and extortion, and adopt intelligence-gathering techniques to address security challenges effectively.

He stressed the importance of officers and men of the command staying updated on social media policies and being mindful of citizens’ fundamental human rights while performing their duties.

He also highlighted the importance of knowing when to use firearms in accordance with Force orders.

The security meeting culminated in a courtesy visit to the state governor, who received Pedro and his entourage at the Government House.

In his address, Pedro appreciated the conducive atmosphere provided by the Governor for CP Waheed Ayilara and the Nigerian Police Force, noting that it has significantly enhanced the fight against crime in the state. He also solicited further support.

In response, Governor Umo Eno thanked the DIG for the visit, stating that it would boost the morale of officers and men of the Force in the command.

He also commended the police for their professionalism and expressed confidence in the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD.
