In the first quarter of 2024, India emerged as the largest supplier of motorcycles to Nigeria, surpassing China with an import value of N73.59 billion, accounting for 63% of total motorcycle imports.
This represents a significant 205% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when imports from India were valued at N24.12 billion.
Nigeria’s total motorcycle imports in the first quarter of 2024 reached N117.4 billion, a substantial 204% rise from N38.6 billion in the same period last year.
China followed India as the second-largest import partner, with an import value of N40.18 billion, marking a 195% increase from N13.64 billion in the first quarter of 2023.
Interestingly, Italy held the top position in motorcycle imports in the first quarter of 2023, with an import value of N105.88 billion, followed by China at N93.01 billion, and India at N51.83 billion.
However, India’s significant growth in 2024 has propelled it to the top spot, surpassing both China and Italy.
This shift underscores the changing dynamics of Nigeria’s motorcycle import market, with India emerging as a dominant player.
