The Imo State Police Command has commenced a special training programme for 500 officers to enhance their skills in combating insurgency and violent crimes, including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.

The training, which is in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s directive, aims to improve the officers’ operational effectiveness and threat response .

According to the State Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, the training is also focused on enhancing community safety and ensuring optimal service delivery.

Danjuma urged the trainees to uphold the highest level of professionalism and dedication to duty, emphasizing that the IGP has zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct.

The training programme, which is being held at the Mopol 18 Headquarters in Ogbakwu, Owerri, will equip the officers with skills in weapons handling, ambush and counter-ambush, stop and search, and other police mobile force trainings.

After completing the training, the officers will be deployed to combat insurgency in the state.

Danjuma noted that the command has changed its strategy by taking the fight against crime to the criminals in the forests and hideouts.

He added that peace has returned to the three local government areas that were previously under siege by insurgents, and the crippling sit-at-home directive has been lifted.
