The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Olukayode A. Egbetokun, NPM, fspsp, expressed his pride in being named a UI@75 Ambassador Extraordinaire during a recent investiture ceremony in Abuja.
The event was attended by the Force Management Team and senior Police Officers.
The investiture was conducted by Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, fspsp, the Registrar of the University of Ibadan (UI).
Dr. Egbetokun, who holds the University in high regard as Nigeria’s first university, pledged to continue embodying the values for which he was honoured.
In his address, Dr. Egbetokun committed to enhancing the security of the University of Ibadan and its community.
UI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, noted that Dr. Egbetokun was recognised for his dedication, leadership, and academic achievements.
He praised the Police Chief for integrating practical experience with academic pursuits, having earned four postgraduate degrees.
Professor Adebowale highlighted that UI’s UI@75 Ambassadors are individuals of exceptional integrity who have significantly contributed to the University and society.
Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp, Chairman of the UI@75 Anniversary Committee, outlined the University’s goals.
These include increasing the Endowment Fund, transforming UI into a Smart University, providing sustainable energy solutions, offering scholarships, and supporting staff development.
To achieve these ambitious goals, UI seeks substantial funding and expects its Ambassadors to utilise their networks to help secure the necessary resources, reducing the University’s reliance on government support.
