Idi-Ape Robbery: Oyo Gov condole with Residents as Police reacts

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has condoled with Residents of Ibadan especially families of those who lost their lives at the robbery attack in Ibadan on Thursday.

NATIONAL TELESCOPE had earlier reported that
several people including police officers and some drivers were killed by Armed Rubbers who attacked a bullion van conveying money to a bank along Idi-Ape area of Ibadan.

The incident occured on thursday, February 10, 2021 between 12pm and 1pm at Idi Ape Junction, Iwo road area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Makinde in a statement posted on his social media handle assured residents in the State that security agencies has commenced investigation on the case.

He said, “I received the sad news of the robbery attack at the ldi-Ape axis of Ibadan which resulted in death and injuries of residents.

“The security agencies are investigating the incident. I pray that the souls of the dead rest in peace and ask that we keep their families in our prayers.

“We are grateful to those who called 615 to report during the incident. We will continue to improve our response times using
the apparatus available to us at the state level. We remain grateful to all security officers who continue to put their lives on
the line for us.”

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command in a Statement signed by the PPRO, SP Adewale Osifeso and made available to National Telescope on thursday, disclosed that the Armed Robbers were 10 in number. Adding that, one of them was neutralize by police officers while others escaped with injuries.

The statement reads in full “Further to the media chat at the scene of crime. Today Thursday 10th February, 2022 at about 1345hrs, a group of masked armed robbers about Ten (10) in numbers trailed, targeted and attacked a bullion van around traffic light area, Idi-Ape junction Agodi, Ibadan.

“The Armed Robbers engaged the Police Officers escorting the bullion van and in the process, an undisclosed amount of money was carted away.

“In swift response, the Police equally neutralized one of the armed robbers while some were believed to have escaped with multiple gunshot injuries.

“Consequently, a civilian onlooker was hit by stray bullet and died at the scene while two Police officers later died in the hospital as a result of gunshot injuries sustained. Four (4) others including Two (2) Police officers are responding to treatment.

“The citizenry are hereby enjoined not to panic as efforts are in top gear to track down and apprehend the criminal gang, the Oyo State Police Command seeks the cooperation of the good people of the State in providing necessary information to help maintain the relative peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the State. As always, if you see something, say something.” He added.
