Fuji singer, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, has revealed that he was once a professional footballer before he quit the round leather game for music.
He said that his exclusion from the 1985 squad that participated in the FIFA/KODAK World championship in China, which Nigeria ultimately won, was the reason for his choice to venture into music.
“I was a footballer but I decided to go into music because I was not picked to go to Kodak for the World Cup,” Pasuma said in a recent interview with actress Iyabo Ojo.
“So I now said I want to be a musician straight. I was a footballer before,” he added.
Pasuma was raised in Mushin, Lagos State. In 1984, he began penning his own songs, drawing inspiration from his idol, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal.
In 1993, he released “Recognition,” his debut album. Since then, he’s put out more than 30 albums.
Among the several honours he has received are the City People Entertainment Award and Best Fuji Artiste.
In addition to his musical career, Pasuma has acted in several Nollywood movies, including “Iyanje” and “Alenibare.”
As a philanthropist, he uses his Pasuma Wonder Foundation to promote causes related to healthcare and education.
