Hussey College, Edel High School Shine as Olu of Warri’s Quiz and Debate Kicks Off

DELTA: The 2025 Ogiame Atuwatse III Intercollegiate Quiz and Debate Competition has commenced in Warri, with schools showcasing their intellectual prowess in an intense battle for academic excellence.

The competition, organized in honor of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, aims to inspire learning and critical thinking among students across Delta State. It features 64 schools divided into 16 groups, with rounds covering subjects such as science, history, and current affairs.

One of the most thrilling contests on the opening day saw Hussey College Warri narrowly defeat Harvest Schools in a nail-biting 18-17 victory, proving their resilience under pressure. In another closely fought match, Edel High School edged past Okotie-Eboh Grammar School with a 12-10 win, while Delta Secondary School secured a comfortable 16-10 victory over Demonstration Secondary School.

Speaking on the importance of the competition, Prince Collins Edema, the Olu of Warri’s representative to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), highlighted its role in shaping future leaders.

“His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III believes in empowering young minds through education. This competition is a step towards fostering a culture of academic excellence among our students,” Edema said.

SP Eduvie Ogaga, a member of the organizing committee, commended the students for their remarkable performances, emphasizing the high level of preparation displayed.

“The enthusiasm and brilliance shown today are truly commendable. These students are proving that they are ready to compete at the highest level,” Ogaga noted.

A student from Hussey College, thrilled by his team’s victory, expressed confidence in their ability to go further in the competition.

“It was a tough contest, but we stayed focused. This win gives us the motivation to push harder in the next round,” he said.

The competition continues with more rounds, as schools battle for the championship title and the prestige of being crowned the best in the region.
