How Robbers in police uniform break into UniAbuja ATM, injure security

Some suspected robbers in police uniform on Monday night broke into an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) belonging to new generation bank stationed at the University of Abuja and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.

According to a source at the university, the incident happened around 11 pm.

He said two of the robbers were in Police uniform and came to the ATM which was close to the Convocation ground, where they met few students using the machine and they tied them up, vandalised the machine and cart away money.

He said the security men noticed some movement at the place and went to investigate but were overpowered and tied up by the robbers as well.

The source said one of the security men was injured in the incident.

He also disclosed that the Bank had loaded money in the machine much earlier in the day, adding that nobody knows exactly how much they had stolen.

He also noted that the Bank has not said anything in that regard.

The spokesperson of the university, Waziri Garba in a telephone interview confirmed the incident, saying the university cannot say anything on it now as the security unit has handed the matter over to the police and they are investigating the matter.
