How Nollywood actors turn social media into battlefield

In the last few weeks, actors in the Nigerian film industry have been engulfed in battle, turning social media into the battlefield.

The practitioners who are popular for their roles in Yoruba language films have continued to exchange verbal combats for various reasons.

Renowned celebrities involved in the faceoff included; Eniola Badmus, Lege Miami, Dayo Amusa, Femi Adebayo, Eniola Ajao and the music artiste with the state name, Portable.

The crisis started with controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh calling for the arrest of social media influencer, Vincent Otsay aka Very Dark Man for cyberbullying and this resulted in an arrest and release of Very Dark Man.

Both have however continued to chide themselves on social media after the arrest and release.

While fans were still looking forward to seeing the end of their clash, Kehinde Adams aka Lege Miami stirred another controversy when he accused Eniola Badmus of being picky and choosy with men.

Lege Miami in a viral video mentioned names of popular actresses that have graced his matchmaking platform seeking partners – including Eniola Badmus.

According to him, Badmus got a partner on his platform but he doesn’t know why their relationship isn’t working. He went on to say Badmus was being picky and choosy.

Responding to Lege’s video, Badmus took to the comment section to urge Lege Miami to be circumspect and discreet but Lege Miami flared up and took a swipe at Badmus saying he knew all that transpired between her and the partner she found on his platform.

This conversation riled Badmus, who took to her social media account to respond to her colleague with expletives.

While that was still on, Eniola Ajao joined the Nollywood battleground when she premiered her new film, ‘Ajakaju: Beast of Two Worlds’.

The premiere had several celebrities in attendance and Ajao decided to reward popular transgender Bobrisky as the best dressed female to attract publicity and attention to the show. The award was presented by Femi Adebayo, who was oblivious to the situation.

Shortly after the premiere, Dayo Amusa registered her displeasure over the recognition given to Bobrisky by her colleague and berated Adebayo for presenting such an award to the transgender. This degenerated into a war of words that enveloped Amusa, Adebayo and his wife. Adebayo was even invited by the police for allegedly promoting homosexuality.

Eniola Ajao, who is at the centre of it all didn’t help matters when she granted an interview saying the decision to reward Bobrisky with the Best Dressed Female was merely a publicity stunt that had nothing to do with Adebayo. She has since tendered an unreserved apology and urged fans to go to cinemas to watch her new film.

Popular Hip-hop artiste, Portable also joined the fight when he engaged Bobrisky in a voice note crossfire.

He also produced a diss track criticising the recognition of Bobrisky as a female.
