How armed robbers attacked First, Access banks in Kogi – Police

A police officer lost his life as armed robbers attacked two banks in Ayingba, the Kogi Police Command confirmed on Friday.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lokoja by the command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, a day after the incident occurred.

First Bank of Nigeria and Access Bank at Ayingba town in Dekina Local Government of the State were reportedly attacked by the deadly robbers around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The robbers carted away an unspecified sum of money from the two banks, despite the security operatives efforts, which claimed the life of a policeman.

“One police constable paid the supreme price during the exchange of fire with the hoodlums before the arrival of the reinforced team to the scenes, and the attackers fled,” the CP said.

Onuoha, on a visit to the scenes for an on-the-spot assessment on Friday, assured residents that “the hoodlums will be apprehended soon.”

The CP tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, with making an instant investigation into the incident and bringing the culprits to deserved justice.

He encouraged the people of Kogi to continue to work with the security agencies with reliable facts on the activities of anyone reasonably suspected within their region.
