The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that 10 people died, and eight others sustained injuries when a building collapsed in Jegede, Ibadan, early Thursday morning.
According to a statement by Oyo Police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso, “At approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, 31st October 2024, a two-story building in the Ojugbede Jegede area of Ogbere collapsed, resulting in the immediate death of 10 people, while eight others are being treated for severe injuries.”
Osifeso added that security personnel have been deployed to the scene to maintain order and protect residents and property.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency also confirmed the incident, noting that rescue efforts are ongoing.
In their statement, Fire Services reported, “The agency received a distress call around 2 a.m. from Jegede Oluloyo area in Ibadan, and so far, 10 bodies have been recovered, while seven people were rescued alive.”
General Manager of the Fire Services, Yemi Akinyinka, stated, “Upon arrival, our team recovered several individuals from the debris. While 10 people were declared dead, our efforts to rescue others trapped in the rubble are still underway.”
