Gunmen kidnap Channels TV reporter, demand N30m

A journalist and correspondent for Channels Television, Joshua Rogers was abducted by gunmen on Thursday night from his home in Rumuosi, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Rogers, who works for his organization covering the Rivers State Government House, was allegedly followed home after closing at work.

It was around nine o’clock at night when the miscreants confronted him, made him get out of his car, aimed a gun at him, and drove him away to somewhere they didn’t know.

A source who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the reporter had previously reported on a primary healthcare center that Governor Siminalayi Fubara opened in Ndoni, which is located in the state’s Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.

“Yes, he was kidnapped last night at his residence in Rumuosi and taken away in his car by some unknown gunmen.

“We are appealing to the kidnappers to release him immediately and unhurt. He is just a journalist doing his job, not a moneybag. So I don’t know the purpose of his kidnapping,” the source claimed.

It was also learned that the thugs had gotten in touch with his wife and asked for N30 million in ransom before they would let him go.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, was not reached for confirmation and has not responded to a text message sent to her as of filing this report.
