Govt. alone can’t Fund Deficit in Education Sector – Makinde

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde said on Monday that government alone cannot fund the deficit in the Education sector in the State.

Makinde made the assertion while playing host to Management of University Press PLC at the Governors Office today.

Makinde who acknowledged the organisation’s role in producing the books the State Government distributed to public schools in the state, lauded the giant stride of corporate organisation in contributing to education sector in the country.

The governor appreciated University Press for donating 3,376 books, valued at Two Million, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy Five Naira (#2,815,375) to libraries of Primary and Secondary Schools in the State.

“This afternoon the Management of University Press PLC led by the Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Olawale paid us a Courtesy Visit. I acknowledge the part they played in producing the books which the Oyo state government distributed to public schools in the state.

“I thanked them for their donation of 3,376 books, valued at Two Million, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy Five Naira (#2,815,375) to libraries of Primary and Secondary Schools in Oyo State.

“I stated that even though we have dedicated 22% of our annual budget to education, the government alone cannot fund the huge deficit in the education sector and so, we are greatful to corporate organisations who contribute to the sector as part of their corporate social responsibility.”
