Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, extended heartfelt congratulations to Deltans and all Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, celebrated today, June 12.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to God for another year of democratic governance in Nigeria.
He acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians in the face of numerous challenges and emphasised the significance of celebrating democracy.
Governor Oborevwori voiced his optimism about the continued growth and flourishing of Nigeria’s democracy, pointing to improvements in electoral laws.
He encouraged citizens to take advantage of these reforms to elect leaders committed to good governance and national well-being.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Delta State, I congratulate Deltans and all Nigerians on the commemoration of the 2024 Democracy Day,” said Oborevwori.
“I extend warm congratulations to all Nigerians, particularly the people and residents of Delta State, as we mark this significant occasion and celebrate the first anniversary of this administration.”
Reflecting on the past 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance since 1999, Oborevwori acknowledged the nation’s progress despite various challenges.
He expressed empathy for the difficulties citizens are currently enduring but maintained a message of hope for the future.
“Amidst adversity, there is always hope. Let us remain optimistic that our future will be brighter than our present,” he stated.
“We are grateful that Nigeria has enjoyed continuous democratic governance, allowing citizens to freely choose their leaders and benefit from good governance over the past 25 years. This marks a significant milestone in our nation’s history.”
Governor Oborevwori reiterated his administration’s commitment to building on the progress of previous governments.
He highlighted the state’s MORE Agenda, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and human capital to ensure ongoing growth and development for all citizens.
“I encourage all citizens of Delta State and Nigeria to remain optimistic and steadfast. Through collective efforts, prayers, cooperation, and a shared vision among leaders and the led, our nation will overcome its current challenges, leading to a brighter future for all,” he said.
