Four Cars Burnt As Fuel Tanker Explodes on Ibadan-Ife Road

No fewer than four vehicles were burnt while several people sustained several degrees of injuries after a petrol tanker exploded on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway.

The incident occurred at Circular Road Junction in Egbeda Local Government Area, according to Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services.

The vehicles affected include a petrol-laden truck, an 18-passenger bus, a medium-sized truck, and a Micra taxi.

Akinyinka explained that the explosion led to a massive fire that engulfed the vehicles and caused a significant traffic jam.

Motorists and commuters were stranded for hours as the Federal Fire Service, along with other security agencies, worked to control the blaze and clear the wreckage.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fuel tanker lost control while trying to navigate a steep incline, which led to the explosion. Efforts to manage the fire were promptly initiated by the state Fire Services.

As of the latest update, it has not been confirmed if there were any fatalities.

Akinyinka mentioned, “Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been exacerbated by some residents attempting to siphon fuel from the tanker.”

He confirmed that the fire resulted in the total destruction of four vehicles, including the petrol truck, the passenger bus, the medium-sized truck, and the Micra.

Several individuals sustained minor injuries in the incident.
