Hon. Christopher Ayeni, former Deputy Speaker of the fourth Kwara State House of Assembly, has passed away following a tragic road accident near Igbaja Junction in Ajase-Ipo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The accident occurred on Thursday around 10:00 a.m., involving a grey commercial Sinoki truck with registration T-17488LA and a white Toyota Hilux with registration ARP545KY.
The crash, which involved five individuals—three men and two women—was reportedly caused by overspeeding and lack of concentration.
All five victims sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Hon. Ayeni later succumbed to his injuries at a cottage hospital in Ajase-Ipo, where he was receiving treatment.
The Kwara State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Basambo Olayinka.
“Five people were involved in the accident, and while none died at the scene, Hon. Ayeni sadly passed away later at a cottage hospital in Ajase-Ipo where he was receiving medical attention,” Basambo stated.
Items recovered from the scene, including two Android phones and two bags, have been handed over to the FRSC and Nigeria Police at Ajase Division.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed deep sadness over Ayeni’s passing.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor extended his condolences to Ayeni’s family, friends, and the people of Isapa in Ekiti Local Government Area.
