Delta State has lost one of its prominent leaders, Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, former Deputy Governor, who passed away at 77 after battling a prolonged illness. Utuama, who served alongside former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan from 2007 to 2015, died early Saturday morning in Lagos.
Born on June 5, 1947, Utuama’s legacy spans law, education, and public service. Before his role as deputy governor, he was Delta State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice under Governor James Ibori. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a respected academic, Utuama also made significant contributions to the legal field as a lecturer at the University of Lagos.
Though an official family statement is pending, close associates confirmed his passing, reflecting on his dedication to Delta State and his substantial contributions to governance and justice. Utuama hailed from Otughievwen in Ughelli South Local Government Area and reportedly struggled with health issues, especially after the recent loss of his wife, Dr. Nelly Utuama.
The family is expected to release details of his funeral arrangements soon.
