Finally NUC transfers LAUTECH ownership to Oyo as Osun gets College

After several years of lingering ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso between the the Oyo State Government and Osun State Governments, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has finally shared the ownership of the Institution.

The NUC transferred ownership of the LAUTECH to the Oyo State Government while the Osun State Government is to take over the College of Health Sciences.

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NIC) Professor Abubakar Rasheed stated this at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday.

Professor Rasheed disclosed that both Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Adegboyega Oyetola have signed a memorandum of Agreement to the development.

The NUC boss expressed optimism that the new arrangement would restore peace to LAUTECH.

Recall that CAMPUS FOCUS had reported some lingering issues ranging from irregularities in payment of staff salaries, bogus increment of Tuition Fee among others.

On May 22, 2019, In bid to address some of the issues, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while addressing Journalist called on the both State Governments to declare a State of Emergency of the Institution.

The Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Dr Ade Adejumo and Chairman of the LAUTECH chapter of the Union, Dr Biodun Olaniran stated that it was not enough to make LAUTECH a campaign issue and not attend to the problems bedevilling the state institution after the polls.

He asked the outgoing government not to politicise raising subvention to 100 per cent but also pay all outstanding debts owed tertiary institutions before leaving the office.

The ASUU leaders also called on the governor Makinde and Governor Oyetola to inject funds into the jointly run institution to avoid crisis.
