National President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke,
on Saturday enjoined President Bola Tinubu to prioritise youth development in the policies and programmes of the Federal Government.
He urged the Tinubu-led government to make adequate provisions for quality education, youth employment, and enabling environment for creative ideas to thrive, saying this would reduce the rate of brain drain in the country.
Bishop Oke who doubles as the Chancellor and Founder of Precious Cornerstone University an offshoot of Sword of the Spirit Ministry stated this during an interview with Journalists at the 2nd Convocation ceremony of PCU in Ibadan on Saturday.
He said, “I want to admonish the government in Nigeria to invest in the youth, as a matter of deliberate policy. The President, Bola Tinubu should make it a top priority not just giving appointments only to youths but invest in them heavily because of their numerical strength in the society with provision of employment, enabling environment for innovation and creative ideas for development, good education to reduce brain drain in the society. Let’s give top priority to our youth and Nigeria will be great.
Our youth are leaving the country and the overseas are picking the best from us. Let’s stop the going to abroad to become second class citizen. The youth are unhappy with the current situation in the country, Let’s raise them to be job creators, not job seekers. Together, we can make Nigeria great, the Cleric said.
“Speaking further, the Chancellor appealed for the support of stakeholders and companies in the society to contribute in the development of the Institution.
The Counsellor announced and presented the new Vice Chancellor of the Institution to the press, Prof. Timothy Adejumo who will resume by December to take the university to a greater heights by 2024.
The outgoing VC, Prof Julius Oloke has served the Institution for 5 years and has completed his tenure with remarkable success made on the Institution.
Going down memory lane, the Counselor, who recalled that the National Universities Commission granted operating licence to Precious Cornerstone University on 19th December, 2017, said that “The University has made a lot of giant stride, thereby cutting a niche in the scientific field by the discovering of the COVID-19 vaccine, and producing for usage. This has given the university a break in the health sector.
“As a faith based University, the Institution have zero tolerance for cultism, promiscuity, vandalism or any form of immorality. We inculcate the fear of God and there’s no interuption in the Institution academic calendar as you can predict when you will be graduating” the Counselor said.
The University has announced it’s intention to introduce new faculty of Applied Health that comprises of Bsc. Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health, Public Health and Physiotherapy as this will enable the university to achieve one thousand student status.
Meanwhile, the Precious Cornerstone University is set for the award of joint international degree certificate for its graduating students.
The Outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Julius Oloke disclosed this during his address at the 2nd Convocation ceremony.
He said, “Precious Cornerstone University has finalized a collaborative agreement with Girne American University GAU,Girne North Cyprus Turkey to award degree for PCU students as this will be an added advantage for students in the institution to obtain international degree certificate”.
Conferment of Honorary Doctorate degree were giving to other distinguished professions who had made indelible mark to the society.
The awardees are Chief Samson Olukayode Taiwo as Dr of Business Administration, (Honoris Causa), Mr. Ayokunnu Ibukun Ojeniyi as Dr of Science, Mr. Debo Adedayo known as “Mr Macaroni”as Dr of Creative Writing and Mr. Olaoluwa Ayobami Adegoke as Dr of Entrepreneurship by the Precious Cornerstone University.
Miss Salami Mojoolaoluwa Oluwatimileyin of the department of Economics emerged overall best graduating student with CGPA of 5.0, and received one million naira and other several prizes.
