The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced the removal of the 18-year age requirement for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
This update came during his first ministerial briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday, where he highlighted several potential reforms in the nation’s educational sector.
Dr. Alausa suggested that his administration might further review Nigeria’s education policy to ensure it aligns with national goals.
He emphasised the importance of practical education as a solution to the country’s unemployment crisis, arguing that tertiary institutions should not merely produce graduates annually without equipping them with skills for the job market.
Meanwhile, the Minister confirmed that the Federal Government’s decision to invalidate over 22,700 degrees obtained from unrecognized universities in neighboring countries, including Togo and Benin Republic, remains firm.
