FCT police arrest two women for child trafficking, rescue five minors

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have apprehended Elizabeth Ojah and Kulu Dogonyaro for attempting to traffic in children and have freed five juveniles who were abducted by the suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday.

The FCT police operatives claimed to have captured the two female suspects on April 27, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., in the vicinity of the Kagini Junction in Abuja, when they were trying to transport the five minors into the Federal Capital Territory.

Adeh said, “The suspects, who initially attempted to escape arrest from the Sokoto Police operatives, were finally apprehended by our eagle-eyed officers in Abuja.”

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Benneth C. Igweh, said in his statement, “We are working closely with our counterparts in Sokoto State to ensure that the children are safely returned to their loved ones.”

The Sokoto State Police Command has been tasked with investigating the case further and reuniting the rescued children, who range in age from six to twelve.

Igweh advised parents and guardians to exercise caution and notify the police right away if they see any questionable activity.

The CP restated the command’s resolve to fight crimes in the FCT, including child trafficking.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents, especially our children,” he emphasized.

After proper investigations, the suspects, who are presently being held by the police, will face charges in court.
