FCT CP Visits Bwari Communities, Pledges Improved Security

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tunji Disu, has assured residents of volatile communities within the Bwari Area Council of heightened security efforts.

This assurance came during his visit to various communities in the Ushafa area of the FCT, which has recently become notorious for increased criminal activities, including kidnappings and killings by armed gangs.

In one of the most recent incidents, gunmen abducted a family of four on August 30. This followed earlier attacks on June 4 and May 13, sparking concerns among residents about the worsening security situation in the area.

Addressing the press on Friday, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the Commissioner embarked on a tour of the affected areas to assess the efficiency of security operations already in place.

“In a proactive step to boost security and foster stronger ties with the community, the newly appointed CP, Tunji Disu, visited the Bwari and Ushafa communities on Friday, October 20, 2024. The visit was aimed at reviewing the current security landscape and evaluating the effectiveness of existing deployments,” Adeh stated.

She added that the visit was part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to restore peace to all parts of the FCT, especially in communities like Bwari that have been hard-hit by insecurity in recent months.

While engaging with traditional leaders, youth groups, and residents, CP Disu emphasized the police’s commitment to responding swiftly and professionally to any threats.

“We understand the fears of the people in this region, and I assure you that we are here to protect you. We have already strengthened our security presence, focusing on intelligence-driven operations and rapid response units. The police cannot succeed without the community’s support, so we urge residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities.”

CP Disu also stressed the importance of collaboration between the police and community members, noting that security is everyone’s responsibility.

“The Command has bolstered its efforts to ensure safety in critical areas of Bwari. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Bwari, and indeed all communities within the FCT, are safe for residents and businesses alike,” he added.

Adeh reiterated that the FCT Command will continue to engage with stakeholders, enhance its security architecture, and employ cutting-edge strategies to combat crime and protect lives and property across the region.

“The public should rest assured that the FCT Command is committed to improving the security situation in Bwari and beyond,” Adeh concluded.
