Fatal Truck Accident Claims Two Lives in Ogun State

Just 24 hours after a fatal truck accident in Ogun State’s Lafenwa area that claimed four lives and injured two others, another tragic incident occurred in the Papalanto area, resulting in the deaths of a grandmother and her granddaughter.

The accident happened in the early hours of Friday, according to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

Akinbiyi explained that the accident involved an Iveco truck with the number plate KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle with the number plate TRE 627 VP.

He attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous driving by the truck driver, which led to the tragic loss of lives.

Akinbiyi reported that four people were involved in the accident, two males and two females.

Unfortunately, the two females, a grandmother and her granddaughter, were crushed to death on the spot.

The TRACE spokesman narrated that the truck driver, in an attempt to overtake the tricycle while both vehicles were heading towards Abeokuta, dragged the tricycle alongside it. The tricycle eventually fell in front of the truck, which then ran over it, killing the two female occupants instantly.

The truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after causing the accident, evading arrest.

The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to their families.

Akinbiyi also mentioned that the injured tricycle driver was rescued by a Good Samaritan and taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The accident vehicles have since been moved to the Itori Divisional Police Command.

In his statement, Akinbiyi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and issued a stern warning to motorists against dangerous and reckless driving, emphasising the severe consequences such behavior can have.

He urged all drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on the roads.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, along with the police, continue to investigate the incident and seek to bring the fleeing truck driver to justice.
