Ex-Kwara gov arraigned by EFCC over alleged financial misappropriation gets N50m bail

The federal high court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has granted former governor , Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed bail in the sum of fifty million naira over alleged financial misappropriation while in office between 2011-2019
.
Abdulfatah is being prosecuted by the EFCC for alleged embezzlement of N10Billion Naira project fund.

The former governor, who drove himself to the EFCC Ilorin zonal office last Monday was however detained under stringent bail conditions.

In her ruling after hearing both parties, Justice Evelyn Anyadike gave eight bail conditions for the former governor’s release.

The court held that Abdulfatah be remanded in the EFCC custody until the bail conditions are met.

Justice Anyadike said the bail conditions should include N50million naira in bond, two sureties with landed properties in Ilorin and submission of his international passport to the court registrar among others.

Answering questions from newsmen, the prosecutor (EFCC’s) lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) who disclosed that the first defendant was standing trial for 12-count charges, said: “the defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.”

In his own comment , the defendant’s counsel, Kehinde Eleja (SAN,) lamented the poor treatment of his client .

The matter has been adjourned to April 29th and 30th this year for hearing.
