#EndSARS Anniversary: Police Arrest 22 Protesters in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command arrested 22 protesters commemorating the fourth anniversary of the EndSARS protests on Sunday.

The protests, which occurred nationwide from October 1 to 20, 2020, were sparked by widespread anger over police brutality. Notably, on October 20, 2020, there were reported fatalities at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

During the remembrance event on Sunday, police used tear gas against youths gathered at the toll gate and subsequently detained several individuals.

Among those arrested were Juwon Sanyaolu, the National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, and Omole Ibukun, founder of the Creative Change Centre. Hassan Soweto, the National Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, was also among those detained.

Other detainees included Ilesanmi Kehinde, Uadiale Kingsley, Osopale Adeseye, and several others.

It is alleged that the protesters are currently held at the Lagos State SCID facility in Panti, Yaba.

Attempts to reach Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin for comment were unsuccessful, as the line was busy and he has yet to respond to messages regarding the situation.
