Enchroachment: Kwara Poly Rector calls for govt intervention

The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed has called for the intervention of the appropriate authority over the unending encroachment of the institution’s land.

Speaking during a press briefing on the occasion of the polytechnic’s 27th combined Convocation, the Rector lamented that portions of the land belonging to the school have been taken over by encroachers which is threatening the peace on the campus and also limiting future expansion of the institution.

His words, “It is very disgusting to report that most of the important land facilities such as training farm has been taken over by land encroachers.

“Illegal private houses are far meters to classrooms, sports arena and other polytechnic facilities. Our staff club is now in the centre of illegal private buildings, staff quarters are immediate neighbours to private buildings.

“We therefore call for immediate intervention of the visitor to the Polytechnic to find lasting solution to this illegality which threatens peace on campus and limits future expansion of the institution.”

Dr. Muhammed who lauded the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on his efforts, appealed for more funds, stressing that funding, construction of campus roads, drainages, renovation of dilapidated buildings are some of the challenges confronting the institution.

He added that there is the need to put the aforementioned in place in order to get accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Speaking further, the Rector said that there are plans to establish Kwara Poly Radio with licence already obtained from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and a transmitter already procured.

He also said that the institution is venturing into painting, bakery, block making and table water production.
