The Acting Director of General Services, Mrs. Yetunde Abimbola Baderinwa, has called on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to prioritize learning work ethics during their service year to enhance productivity, foster teamwork, and prepare for the future.

Addressing the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 Corps members at the NYSC Oyo Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, Mrs. Baderinwa urged the Corps members to reflect on their aspirations and use their service year to invest in personal growth. Her visit included Corps members deployed to Oyo State and those dislodged from Lagos State for their orientation exercise.

The Acting Director, who received a warm reception from Camp Officials and Corps members, conveyed greetings from the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed. She congratulated the Corps members on their posting to Oyo, the “Pace-Setter State,” under the guidance of dedicated officers led by the State Coordinator, Chief Odoba Abel Oche.

Commending the good conduct of Corps members, Mrs. Baderinwa urged them to sustain their discipline and obey all NYSC rules and regulations, starting with their time in camp. She emphasized respecting host communities’ cultures and traditions, fostering peaceful coexistence, and identifying the needs of their communities to leave a lasting positive impact.

Highlighting the benefits of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, she encouraged Corps members to take advantage of it, saying, “One Corps member, two skills.” She explained that the initiative is designed to prepare them for self-employment and entrepreneurial success, with support from institutions like the Bank of Industry, Access Bank, and Wema Bank offering interest-free loans and grants.

Mrs. Baderinwa advised Corps members to use social media responsibly, spreading positive news about the scheme and engaging constructively on issues of concern. “Make positive changes wherever you find yourself,” she said, urging them to cherish relationships built during their service year as invaluable for the future.

She reminded Corps members to prioritize their safety, avoid late nights, and live moderately at their Places of Primary Assignment, emphasizing, “You are the chief security of yourself.”

The visit featured a cultural dance display by Corps members and cash gifts presented to outstanding groups by Mrs. Baderinwa. The State Coordinator, Chief Odoba Abel Oche, expressed gratitude for her visit, noting that her presence inspired and uplifted the Corps members.

The Acting Director concluded her visit by urging Corps members to make the most of the once-in-a-lifetime orientation camp experience and contribute to Nigeria’s development with dedication and patriotism.
