Ekiti Chief Judge, Adeyeye Dies at 64


 
The Ekiti State Judiciary has confirmed the passing of Chief Judge Hon. Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, who died at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
 
In an official statement released by the Chief Registrar, Adegoke Olanike, and signed by the judiciary’s Public Relations Officer, Olayiwola Michael, the judiciary expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Justice Adeyeye, describing him as a dedicated figure who championed fairness, equity, and justice throughout his career.
 
“It is with profound sadness that the Chief Registrar of Ekiti State Judiciary, Adegoke Olanike, Esq., announces the passing of Ekiti State Chief Judge, Hon Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, after a brief illness,” the statement read.
 
“The late Chief Judge was a respected jurist who dedicated his life to upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and justice. His contribution to the development of the judiciary and Ekiti State at large is immeasurable, and his legacy will be deeply missed. Further details will be announced in due course.”
 
Justice Adeyeye, born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, Ekiti East Local Government, was a native son and a legal stalwart.
 
He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, beginning his career as a state counsel in the old Ondo State.
 
Following the creation of Ekiti State in 1996, he joined the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission, steadily rising through the ranks.
 
His dedication to the rule of law saw him appointed as a judge of the Ekiti State High Court in 2002, where he served with distinction. Over the years, he was also part of various election petition tribunals, leaving an indelible mark on the state’s judicial landscape.
 
Justice Adeyeye was appointed Chief Judge on October 11, 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
 
In his words, “Justice Adeyeye’s elevation to Chief Judge was a recognition of his unwavering dedication and integrity. He was a man deeply committed to the justice system and to the people of Ekiti.”
 
As Ekiti State mourns, tributes have poured in from legal professionals, state officials, and citizens alike. “We have lost a pillar of justice in Ekiti State,” said a colleague.
 
“He was a man of humility and wisdom, always dedicated to justice. His absence will be deeply felt in our judiciary.”
