As Muslims in Kwara State prepare to celebrate Eid-El-Fitri, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken proactive measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety on major roads.
The Kwara State Sector Command has deployed over 1,000 personnel, including 650 officers and marshals, alongside 350 Special Marshals, to manage road traffic during the festive period.
The sector command has also mobilized essential resources, including 120 first responders, 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, and a 70-tonne tow truck, to handle emergencies and ensure swift response to road incidents.
Speaking on the development, the Kwara State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Mufutau A. Irekeola, emphasized the need for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
He warned against dangerous driving practices such as excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, overloading, and the use of phones while driving.
“The safety of road users remains our priority. We urge all motorists to drive responsibly and avoid reckless behaviors that could endanger lives. Only the living celebrate,” Irekeola stated.
To further promote road safety awareness, the FRSC has launched an intensive public enlightenment campaign across the state. This includes mega rallies at interstate motor parks, sensitization programs in markets, churches, and mosques, as well as early morning advocacy drives.
Additionally, Special Marshals have been strategically positioned on major highways to manage traffic congestion and assist in emergency situations.
While wishing residents a peaceful Eid-El-Fitri celebration, Irekeola reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads for all, urging drivers to cooperate with officers for a hitch-free celebration.
