A horrific incident of mob justice has shaken the community of Uromi in Edo State, Nigeria, after a group of hunters were brutally murdered by a mob who mistakenly identified them as kidnappers.
The victims, who were traveling for Sallah celebrations, were intercepted by a local security outfit and subsequently attacked by a mob after dane guns were found in their vehicle.
Governor Monday Okpebholo has condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and condemnable,” and has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
The Governor assured that those involved in the attack will be brought to justice, stating that “nobody has the right to take another man’s life”.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians criticizing the government’s inability to prevent such acts of jungle justice.
The police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident, and the Governor has urged calm, assuring residents that security agencies have been deployed to restore peace and normalcy to the area.
