Edo Gov, Deputy sworn in for 2nd Term, promises to focus on Education, Others

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, have been sworn in for a second term in office.

The event which was held at Tennis Court of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin on Thursday, Nov 12, 2020, had in attendance governors of the People Democratic Party including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, as we’ll as other members and national executives of PDP including the National Chairman, Uche Secondus.

The Oath of Office was administered around 12 noon by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Esther Edigin.

While delivering his inaugural address, Obaseki promised to concentrate more on reviving the economy; growing the social sectors through education, healthcare, especially for the vulnerable. Adding that development of the critical energy and digital sectors; road construction to build the economy and drive industrialisation are all key area he will improve upon to make Edo State in this new term in office.

Obaseki said: “My reelection represents new hope. I see myself as a vessel in the redefinition of democracy in Nigeria and I am not unaware of the enormous responsibility this places on me.

“Aside from the fact that it restores hope in democracy, our victory also offers an opportunity for us to bridge the gap between a challenged past and a promising future.

“It is time to heal. We are kith and kin with a common destiny. Let’s stop dwelling in the past. It time to take our common destiny in our hands and commence the odious task of making Edo great again.”

Obaseki however thanked the People Democratic Party, PDP, for “covering us with the umbrella when we were abandoned.”

The governor also said he would exploit agriculture and natural resources to improve food security and create wealth; recalibration of the civil service and promotion of arts and culture.
