By Abiodun Awoyemi

The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Kingsley Obiora, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria over alleged financial misconduct with the suspended CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.

Obiora is the deputy governor in charge of economic policy at the top bank. His arrest follows an ongoing investigation into CBN, which is run by Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele has been in the DSS’s custody since June 10, 2023, the day after President Bola Tinubu withdrew him from office.

Jim Obazee was designated by Tinubu as a special investigator in July to direct the investigation into the actions of the apex bank under Emefiele. Dr. Peter Afunanya,

a spokesperson for the DSS, and Dr Isa Abdulmumin, a spokeswoman for the CBN, are yet to respond at the time of filing the report.
