The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Michael Lenin, a key figure in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in Abuja.
Lenin, the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, was detained at his residence in the Apo area of Abuja around 2 a.m. on Monday, August 4.
Lenin’s arrest follows his recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday address regarding the protests.
He accused the President of being out of touch with the harsh realities faced by the country. Despite being taken into custody, Lenin has called on Nigerians to continue participating in the protests on Monday, August 5.
Efforts to reach DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya for comment were unsuccessful.
The #EndBadGovernance protests have been ongoing for weeks, with demonstrators voicing their frustrations over poor governance and economic challenges.
The movement has gained significant traction, with many Nigerians taking to the streets to demand change.
In a related development, activist Deji Adeyanju has urged President Tinubu to take the grievances of the Nigerian people seriously.
Adeyanju suggested that the President consider initiating a National Dialogue with the protesters to address their concerns constructively.
The protests have become a focal point of national discourse, reflecting widespread discontent with the current administration.
The arrest of Michael Lenin is a significant development in the ongoing protests, raising questions about the government’s approach to dissent and the handling of public dissatisfaction.
