Corp members have be warned to shun cultism and other social vices as no fewer than 1,647 of 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 deployed to Oyo State were sworn-in for the one year mandatory national service.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, commended the corps members for answering the clarion call to serve their fatherland.

Speaking on behalf of the DG on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe admonished the corps members to take advantage of the exercise, adding that the service, “will equip you for the realisation of your potentials and attainment of individual feats both within the period of service and beyond.”

According to him,
highlights of the camp activities will include lessons on the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical trainings as well as sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others.

Speaking further, the DG said, “You are expected to avail yourselves of this unique opportunity by participating actively in all aforementioned programmes.

“Let me use this opportunity to caution you against indulgence in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices. I also urge you to use the social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred. At all times, you must be security conscious, and avoid putting yourselves in harm’s way.

“It is no longer news that white collar jobs are hard to come by. For this reason, the empowerment of Corps members for self-employment and wealth creation has been a major area of focus for the Scheme since 2012.

“You will from this moment be availed of that opportunity through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. I am happy to inform you that many of your predecessor, who embraced vocational and entrepreneurial training on the SAED platform, are now successful business owners.”

Highlights of the event included, the administration of oath of allegiance to the corps members by the Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Munkar Abimbola who was represented by Justice Iyabode Yerima, mach parade by 10 platoons as well as performance by the Man O’ War.
