Democracy Day: Commercial activities paralised as Nigerians protest against PMB

Just as the nation marks the 2021 Democracy Day, commercial activities have been halted as Nigerians took to the streets protesting.

While some were protesting against insecurity and the Muhammedu Buhari led Government, others were seen protesting for the creation of Yoruba Nation.


NATIONAL TELESCOPE correspondence who monitored the situation in Ibadan, Oyo state capital observed that the protest was held at different locations of State.
Security personnel such as Military men, Police, Amotekun, Vigilante were also seen at strategic location in the State capital and at the scene of protest.

Buhari must Go protesters


At Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Protesters were seen holding a banner while singing in Yoruba dialet “It is Yoruba Nation we want, No going back”.


Speaking in an interview, the Convener of Yoruba Nation Protest, Prince Owolabi said, “Today we have come out to put across our mind over this Country which I call Zoolaria, Today Democracy Day, June 12, we have decided to come out to show our grievances for people to know that we want nothing than Yoruba nation. We don’t want any other thing. We don’t want Buhari should come, Buhari should go, or Lai Mohammed, we don’t want anybody, all we want is Yoruba nation.


“I want to also educate those people thinking we will suffer if we seperate. The most fertile land in Nigeria is in Southwest. But this people out of their gimmick have taken our people away from the farms.
“Ofcourse our forefathers may have missed the line but we in this generation have come to say No more any form of oppression from the Northerners.” He added.

Meanwhile at Mokola Area, the protesters were seen holding a banner with the inscription “we are tired of the killings, insecurity, terrorism and poverty in the country” while singing “Buhari must go” calling for the resignation of President Muhammmadu Buhari.

Earlier, the Protesters met with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde while passing through Bodija area, where he (Makinde) showed solidarity with the protesters.

In the same vein, mammoth crowd gathered at the entrance of the Oyo State Secretariat calling for the resignation of the president over what they described as “lack of capacity to govern the country.”

Our reporter observed that some parts of the road leading to the Secretariat was barricaded by the protesters as motorists were obstructed from plying the roads.

Meanwhile in Lagos State, NATIONAL TELESCOPE learnt that members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who assembled to protest at the early hours of the day were dispersed by men of the Nigerian police.

Speaking in a phone chat with our reporter, the NANS Zone ‘D’ coordinator, Kowe Odunayo Amos said they regrouped and continued the protest after they were earlier disparsed.
