Delta State Government, under the leadership of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is encouraging all residents aged 18 and above to utilize free health screenings for hypertension and diabetes as part of a statewide health campaign.

This initiative, scheduled for October 28 to November 3, 2024, is aimed at promoting early detection and management of these common health issues.

Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, stressed the government’s commitment to reaching every resident.

“We are using radio, talk shows, and community outreach to make sure this message reaches every corner of Delta State,” Oghenesivbe stated.

“A simple health check could be the difference between life and death.”

Governor Oborevwori assured the public that the screenings are completely free and accessible.

“Our goal is for every adult in Delta State to know their health status,” said Oghenesivbe. “The Delta State Ministry of Health has fully funded this initiative to ensure everyone has access.”

Screening centers will be widely available across Delta, including the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba, state hospitals, the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba, health centers, places of worship, markets, and local government offices. Students at higher institutions across Delta will also have access to screenings on their campuses.

“Hypertension and diabetes are major global health challenges, with diabetes alone impacting over 422 million people worldwide,” noted Oghenesivbe.

“This initiative provides Deltans with an essential opportunity to take control of their health.”

The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, will coordinate the deployment of medical personnel across all centers, ensuring a smooth and efficient screening process for all residents.
