Delta Government to Overhaul Major Roads in Sapele

Delta State Government has announced plans to reconstruct the deteriorating Okirighwre-Benin Road and several internal roads in Sapele to improve traffic flow and ease the commute for motorists.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday afternoon, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, detailed the government’s intentions during a road inspection.

“The state Governor is concerned about the poor condition of the Okirighwre-Benin Road and the inconvenience faced by motorists,” Aniagwu stated.

“Other roads scheduled for construction include Shell Road Extension, Eseimoni Street, Major Bowen Road, and Benin Road by GKM.”

Aniagwu reiterated the Governor’s commitment to addressing the issues.

“Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has a comprehensive view of the road conditions across Delta.

“He received reports about the severe state of this road and directed immediate action. We will not just make this road motorable but fully reconstruct it.

“We are committed to hiring a contractor known for efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.

He also noted that the initiative is part of the Governor’s broader urban renewal plan aimed at beautifying cities and enhancing commuting for residents.

PDP State Chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, expressed his gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his development efforts in Sapele and other areas.

Similarly, Hon. Bright Abeke, Chairman of Sapele Local Government, voiced his satisfaction with the road reconstruction plans, stating that the residents of Sapele will be pleased with the Governor’s initiatives.

Abeke assured that permanent solutions, rather than temporary measures, would be implemented, predicting significant improvements within the next three months.
