Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has advised the newly-elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the state’s 25 local government areas to prioritise infrastructural development in the state.
The governor stated this during the swearing-in ceremony in Asaba, the state capital.
Governor Oborevwori emphasised the need for fiscal discipline, modesty, and prudent management in their administration.
He urged the officials to prioritize infrastructural development and address critical issues such as insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and environmental decay in their respective localities.
The governor stressed the importance of staying close to their communities, warning against running local governments from distant locations like Asaba and Warri. Highlighting the Supreme Court’s affirmation of local government autonomy, he encouraged the officials to improve sanitation and boost internally-generated revenue without placing additional burdens on the populace.
Governor Oborevwori also underscored the importance of collaborative governance and inclusive leadership to ensure stability and progress within their domains.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.
