The Delta State Governor, Elder Sherriff Oborevwori, has officially inaugurated the 18th edition of the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s International Youth Camp, hosted at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Training School in Agbor, Delta State.
Representing the Governor at the event, Commissioner for Youth Development, Barrister Harry Trakiriowei, highlighted the state government’s consistent support for youth initiatives.
This is according to a statement made available to NATIONAL TELESCOPE, by the Coordinator of Communications and Advocacy, Chima Nwankwo.
In his address, the Governor emphasized Delta State’s commitment to youth development, stating, “Here in Delta State, we recognize the crucial role education plays in shaping our youth to make lasting impacts in the world.
This is why, upon assuming office, I directed all state-owned universities and tertiary institutions to reduce tuition fees for students.”
He also listed additional programs aimed at creating more opportunities for young people in both formal and informal sectors.
The Commandant of the FRSC Training School, Agbor, Oludare Ogunjobi, acknowledged the longstanding partnership between the Red Cross and the Federal Road Safety Corps, expressing delight in hosting the camp.
The National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, commended the dedication of the youth participants, recognizing their critical role in shaping the future of humanitarian work in Nigeria.
He specifically appreciated Mr. Sidney Osawaru, the National Youth Adviser, for his unwavering commitment to organizing the camp at international standards.
Prince Adeaga also extended gratitude to the NRCS branches across the country, noting that participants traveled from distant states such as Zamfara, Borno, Rivers, Lagos, and Kano.
In a show of international solidarity, the camp welcomed delegates from Seychelles, Mozambique, Uganda, and Kenya.
Prince Adeaga encouraged them to take back positive experiences of Nigerian hospitality to their home countries.
Speaking on the significance of the camp, Prince Adeaga emphasized that the youth are not just attendees but integral members of a global humanitarian movement.
He reiterated the NRCS’s dedication to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Unified Plan 2024, which focuses on four key pillars: Empowerment, Collaboration, Sustainability, and Inclusivity.
He urged the youth to remain active in their communities and ensure their contributions are sustainable and inclusive.
The event sets the stage for a week of learning, networking, and exchange of ideas among young Red Cross members, fostering a deeper sense of community and global citizenship.
