Delta Dismisses Opposition’s Claims on LG Polls, Calls Demands ‘Preposterous

By Chuks Peter DELTA

The Delta State Government has responded to opposition parties’ objections to the recent local government council elections, labeling their demands for cancellation as “preposterous and ridiculous.”

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, addressed journalists in Asaba, refuting allegations of rigging as baseless and laughable.

Ahon attributed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) success to its commendable programmes and projects since 1999.

He criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party for failing to campaign, unlike the PDP, which actively engaged with voters across all units and wards.

Ahon expressed gratitude to Deltans for their support and the peaceful conduct of the elections.

He challenged the Labour Party to disclose their campaign efforts and the number of candidates they fielded.

Ahon reiterated that the government remains focused on its agenda, undeterred by opposition elements.

He highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s achievements, including improvements in roads, healthcare, education, and employment, crediting these accomplishments for the PDP’s victory.

Ahon also described the newly sworn-in Council Chairmen and their deputies as individuals of proven integrity, urging them to promote human capital and infrastructural development in line with the MORE Agenda.

He praised the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and security operatives for their professionalism, ensuring the elections’ credibility.

He assured that the cooperation between Governor Oborevwori and the council chairmen would expedite development across the state.
