Delta Church Attack: Gunmen Kill Policemen, Kidnap Prominent Community Member

Suspected kidnappers have reportedly attacked the “King Jesus” and another church off DBS Road, killing two policemen and abducting Ada Anioma Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent community member in Asaba, Delta State’s capital.

THe National Telescope learned that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, July 30, 2024. 

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers opened fire on the security personnel before seizing their target. 

While the motive remains unclear, sources speculate that a ransom demand may be involved.

The community is reeling from the incident, and the police have launched an investigation while ramping up security to prevent further attacks. 

According to sources, the kidnappers went on a rampage at the “King Jesus” and another church off DBS Road in Asaba. 

They attacked and left a trail of destruction and death, killing two policemen who were providing security at the church. 

The heavily armed assailants stormed the church premises, opened fire on the policemen, and then abducted Ada Anioma Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent community member.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing outrage and condemnation.

Efforts to obtain comments from the police were unsuccessful as their phone numbers were unreachable at the time of filing this report. 

However, a senior police officer, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident. 

He stated, “The police have launched an investigation and are working to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted victim. 

“The authorities have also increased security measures in the area to prevent further attacks.”

This incident is a stark reminder of the growing insecurity in the state and the region, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community to combat crime and protect citizens.
