Defence ministers present as army buries 22 soldiers killed in Niger state

Twenty-two soldiers of the Nigerian Army killed in an ambush by bandits in Niger state have been buried.

The burial ceremony which took place at the national military cemetery in Abuja on Friday, was attended by families, friends, senior military personnel and colleagues of the late officers.

Muhammed Badaru, minister of defence; Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence; Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff, and other service chiefs, were also present at the event.

On August 14, an aircraft conveying wounded soldiers from the scene of an ambush by bandits in Wushishi LGA, crashed in Chukuba village, Shiroro LGA in Niger state.

Several military personnel were reportedly killed by terrorists who attacked Kundu village near Zungeru.

Days later, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed that three officers and 22 soldiers were killed during the ambush and helicopter crash.
