President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all outgoing government officials to declare their assets.

Buhari and his officials will cease to control the affairs of the country after the inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

However, all public officials are expected to declared their asset upon resumption as well as while vacating the office.

This is in accordance with Paragraph 11 Part 1 to the 5th Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandates political office holders to declare their assets upon assumption and at the end of their term in office.

Perhaps leading by example, President Buhari received copies of his asset declaration form at the State House, Abuja on Friday from a delegation of the Code of Conduct Bureau led by its Chairman, Prof Isah Mohammed.

Buhari, in a tweet on his social media handle on Sunday, said he will fill and submit the form, saying all outgoing officials, from the Vice President downwards, to do the same.

He said, “A few days ago, I collected and acknowledged receipt of my Assets Declaration Form. I will fill the form and submit it as prescribed by law. Nobody is excluded from declaring their assets. I expect all outgoing officials, from the Vice President downwards, to do the same.”
